The challenge

ekomia started 10 years ago and is now a sought-after label for ecological design furniture. The wood used, the oil, the colours and also the packaging are sustainable. So far, only a few market players offer this. These special pieces of furniture are in demand by very demanding customers. The typical customer at ekomia is asking several questions and expects a high-quality delivery. The challenge for the online retailer, who was still a young company in 2014, was to deliver particularly large and heavy goods such as beds, tables or shelves to the end customer quickly and throughout Germany. Also, to meet the demand for a transparent customer communication.

The process

For the large and bulky goods, ekomia worked with a freight forwarding network with whose services they were dissatisfied. There was no proper IT system and customers usually had to wait five weeks for their furniture to be delivered. ekomia also missed fast communication to the end customer. Until then, long delivery times led to dissatisfaction. Therefore, the start-up was looking for a reliable logistics solution with fast delivery times and customer-focused communication.
